Cheerful mid-century vintage gnome figurine dressed in a rich red coat and hat, holding a black pipe and seated on a gold-toned stump. Mold number appears to be marked "-268" on the underside; no maker's mark found--typical of 1950s-70s European-style chalkware/ceramic figures. Original hand-painted glossy finish with light age wear, the only notable scratch is to the gold on the bottom as seen in the last image, no structural cracks noted. Solid, display-ready piece with great color and character. The pipe-smoking pose is a classic postwar motif symbolizing leisure and wisdom--distinct from the earlier working-style gnomes of the 1930s.
